Adding Captions

Auto-Generated Captions

Sovran can automatically generate captions from your video's audio using AI transcription (powered by OpenAI Whisper):

1. Open a video in the Video Editor.
2. Click the "Captions" button in the toolbar.
3. Select "Auto-Generate".
4. Captions are generated with word-level timestamps for precise sync.

The AI transcribes speech and places each word at the exact moment it's spoken — no manual timing required.

Styling Captions

Customize the appearance of your captions:

• Font — Choose from a selection of fonts optimized for video readability.
• Size and color — Adjust text size and color to match your brand.
• Position — Place captions at the top, center, or bottom of the frame.
• Background — Add a background box behind captions for better readability on busy video.

Editing Captions

After auto-generation, you can edit any caption text directly in the editor. Click on a caption segment to modify the text, adjust timing, or split/merge segments.
