AI Semantic Clipping

AI analyzes long-form videos and suggests clip-worthy scenes for extraction.

Asset detail view with clip candidates

Overview

Sovran's AI can analyze long-form videos — testimonials, podcasts, product demos — and automatically identify segments worth extracting as standalone clips. Each candidate comes with a confidence score so you can quickly review and approve the best moments.

Running Analysis

  1. Navigate to any video asset in your Asset Bank and open the detail view.
  2. Go to the Clips tab.
  3. Click "Analyze Now" to start the analysis.

The AI runs both transcript-based and visual analysis. Results appear automatically when processing completes.

Assets must be at least 4 seconds long to run analysis.

Scene Detection

In addition to AI analysis, you can run scene detection to split a video into individual scenes at cut boundaries:

  1. Click "Detect Scenes" in the Clips tab toolbar.
  2. The detector identifies every scene cut with sub-second precision.
  3. Scene cuts appear as their own candidate group alongside script and visual candidates.

Scene detection is useful for raw footage or multi-scene videos where you want to isolate individual shots before deciding which to keep.

Script, Visual, and Scene Candidates

The system generates three types of candidates:

  • Script candidates — Detected from transcript analysis. The AI identifies 15 module types: Hook, Problem, Solution, Benefit, Results, Social Proof, CTA, and more. Each segment is tagged with its module type and a confidence score.
  • Visual candidates — Detected from visual scene analysis. The AI identifies visually compelling moments like product close-ups, scene transitions, or on-screen text.
  • Scene cuts — Detected by scene detection. Each cut boundary becomes a candidate representing a single continuous shot.

Each candidate displays its timestamp range, label, description, and confidence score (0–100%). Groups are collapsible so you can focus on one category at a time.

Reviewing Candidates

  • Approve — Mark a candidate as ready for export.
  • Reject — Hide a candidate from the main view. Rejected candidates can be restored using the "Show rejected candidates" toggle.
  • Approve All — Bulk-approve all pending candidates at once.

The info bar shows counts for total, approved, exported, and rejected candidates.

Previewing Clips

Click any clip candidate's thumbnail to open a looping preview of just that segment. The preview plays the exact time range on repeat so you can quickly evaluate the clip without scrubbing through the full video.

Trimming Before Export

Click "Trim" on any candidate to fine-tune the start and end points before exporting. The trimmer modal lets you adjust the boundaries while previewing the clip.

You can also toggle "Include audio" on or off for all exports.

Exporting Clips

  • Single export — Click "Export" on an approved candidate.
  • Bulk export — Click "Export All Approved" to export every approved candidate at once.

Exported clips are rendered server-side and appear as new assets in your Asset Bank. Track export progress with the status badges: Queued → Rendering → Ready.

Once a clip is ready, click "Open clip" to preview or use it in your sequences and video editor.

Remixing Clips

Select 2–4 approved or exported clips and click "Remix Clips" to generate every possible ordering as rendered videos. This is a fast way to A/B test different story structures from the same set of clips.

Build in Editor

Select approved clips and click "Build in Editor" to send them directly to the Video Editor. Each clip lands on the timeline pre-trimmed to its exact time range, ready for captions, music, and text overlays.

Original vs. Derived Assets

Analysis, clipping, and trimming are available on original assets (uploads and AI-generated videos). Derived assets — clips, remixes, and editor exports — show a simplified detail view focused on playback and reuse, since they've already been curated from originals.
